Why did you decide on a career in Corporate Finance?
I decided on a career in Corporate Finance due to the work being very fast-paced and varied. I was drawn to the industry as you can make a real impact on companies and their futures. There is no hiding that it’s hard work, but it’s very exciting, challenging and rewarding.
Why did you choose Gleacher Shacklock?
Initially I applied to Gleacher Shacklock due to the reputation of the firm and the desire to work in a boutique that offers a broad range of services across multiple sectors. During the interview process I really enjoyed meeting the team, everyone was very friendly and welcoming. This continued through the internship with a great working environment and culture.
What did you enjoy most about the Internship Programme?
During the internship, I really enjoyed the variety of tasks I worked on, I was involved in multiple projects and felt part of the team right from the start. I found it very beneficial that I was able to work on live projects with the full support of the team, who were always happy to answer my questions.
Did anything surprise you about the Internship Programme?
I was very surprised about the amount of responsibility and trust you are given as an intern. You get stuck in on multiple tasks and live projects for both marketing purposes and clients. The team are always happy to help, they also encourage you to push your boundaries and trust that you are up to the task.
Is there anything you wished you had known before you started the Internship Programme?
Looking back at my internship I think I should have worried less before starting about whether I would fit in both knowledge and culture wise. People don’t expect you to know everything and you shouldn’t be afraid of asking for help or saying honestly that you don’t know how to do a certain task. I think that the desire to learn and deliver work I was proud of was most important when I started.
What advice would you give to someone considering the Internship Programme?
Be curious and enthusiastic about everything you do. You won’t know all the answers and how to do everything from the start, but if the team sees how passionate and keen you are, everyone is very happy to involve you in projects and help you out whenever they can. There are so many interesting projects going on all the time, so it is a great opportunity to learn something new every day.
